London baby, here we come
By: Anders Olesen (International Line 09/10)
Early morning, 12th of April, 14 students and 2 teachers went to London, with their bags full of clothes, their wallets filled with pounds, and their stomachs filled with excitement. The journey was long but the mood was high. “London baby, here we come”. At 8 pm the same day, they stood in Stanstead airport, London.
Tuesday started out in one of the best ways possible. Traditional English breakfast was on the morning menu. After breakfast, they all went into London City, where they rode an open-top-bus, around the streets of London. Despite the cold weather, it was a good bus trip. Afterwards they visited St Paul’s Cathedral where they were allowed to go up to the top dome and the outer gallery.
Wednesday was the day when the students got some time on their own. In small groups they ventured off, discovering the shopping facilities of London city. Before they went shopping they went to Kings College, which is one of the best colleges in the world and were shown around by an overseas student from America. After dinner Wednesday the teacher Richard had a surprise for the students. They were all going to see the great musical ‘The Lion King’, which is a big London landmark.
Thursday morning was spent in two of the big museums in London, the Natural History Museum, and the Science Museum. But during the visits, the teacher Mark got the news that an ash cloud had stopped all of the flying traffic in the UK. Just when the student’s panic level was on the highest, Mark was able to get 16 bus tickets to Denmark. The bus was going home Saturday morning, which gave the students a extra day in London, and that was not too bad, after all.
Friday morning was spent visiting The Imperial War Museum, and after lunch they explored London with friends. Some went to Camden, and others went to the huge department store, Harrods.
Saturday was the day they were going home. They knew that they had about thirty hours bus trip in front of them, but that didn’t break their positive spirit. They drove all day, and at about 6 Pm they arrived in Bruxells (They found out later that Bruxells is the most boring city in the world!). After a seven hour long break, they ventured on, into Germany, and home, to Denmark. They all came back in good shape ( some with an extra kilogram or two, on the side, during to KFCs delicious chicken menu’s)
Great to travel but good to be back!
